GOM Workshop & Masterclass program
From the most basic pyramids and partner counterbalances to high level dynamic tumbling and group acrobatics, our artists can offer skills and knowledge catered to any event and participant skill level.
RECOMMENDED Basic and Intermediate Partner Acrobatics - This is ideal for young groups with limited or intermediate experience. We teach basic partner pyramids and work our way up from there catering to the skill level and enthusiasm of each participant. It’s fun, challenging, safe for beginners and ideal for schools.
We can teach almost anything, but our company specialises in a few key areas:
Acrobatic Swinging - Originating from early “toss the girl” cabaret performances, this exhilarating and spectacular discipline has had a huge resurgence in Australian Circus. Gravity & Other Myths are leaders in this area and are passionate about sharing our skills and fundamentals with the world. This requires groups of 3 or more with a variety of body types (smaller flyers and 2 larger bases) and we recommend participants have an intermediate level of acrobatic skill. We can dedicate an entire session to all the different types of swings, throws and catches.
Towers – Starting at the 2 high (one person standing on another’s shoulders) and working through several different climbs and dismounts, eventually working towards creating towers of 3 or more! This is a fundamental acrobatic position and one we are incredibly passionate about. We can offer this in combination with other acrobatic skills or focus an entire session on the towers. Can be catered to beginner through to advanced participants.
Creative Tumbling – Cartwheels, somersaults and backflips! GOM has a strong base in gymnastic floor tumbling fundamentals as well as a huge variety of creative tumbling experience. We can run basic floor tumbling workshops or creative tumbling and “flow” tumbling sessions. This workshop is recommended as an extension to our Grounded Movement topic.
Creation and Choreography - This is recommended for performance groups or Drama and Dance students who are interested to learn how GOM devises and creates our physical content. It can be for beginner, intermediate or advanced groups. We recommend groups that have worked with each other before. Drawing from many varied influences GOM has built a strong toolkit for creating physical work. From acrobatics through to dance and even theatre, we can run a collection of short creation exercises that we use to create or own work. We can plan these workshops to align specifically with the curriculum requirements and interests of your students
